5 Alternate Uses for Coffee

Have you ever wondered what you can do with coffee, other than drinking it? Of course, you have! It’s what we coffee fanatics dream of…more and more ways to bring coffee into our lives.

Dream no more. Here are 5 alternate uses for all types of coffee before and after brewing.

Goodbye Headaches

You know that feeling of relief you get when you take a sip of your favourite blend? Scientists have found that coffee helps to reduce the strength and regularity of headaches. Take it with ibuprofen and your symptoms could lessen by up to 70%.

Banish Odours

If you have a particularly smelly room in your home or car, things like wet dog smell or cat litter can be a real nuisance. Try placing a small (open-topped) container filled with freshly ground coffee somewhere safe, where there’s no danger of it being knocked open. The fresh coffee beans will help to absorb strong odours, leaving you with freshness and an underlying scent of yummy coffee.

Give your Compost aCaffeine Boost

The more we can preserve our beautiful planet the better, after all, coffee beans are grown from the earth.

Boost your compost by pouring in coffee or tea. This will increase the bacterium population and will quicken the composting process.

Fertilise Your Garden

Sticking with the green theme, why not try adding a little coffee to your garden fertiliser. The acidity, nitrogen and phosphorous found in coffee make it perfect for rose bushes and evergreens. Like some other fertilisers, you shouldn’t sprinkle the coffee grounds on top of the soil, instead, bury it a little to prevent mould from growing.

Quick Tip: Don’t use too much. Over-feeding your plants is disastrous as it causes the acidity in the soil to rise. Use just ¾ of a cup, once per month.

Get Shinier Hair

I’m sure most of you have noticed the range of ‘Caffeine Shampoos’ that have hit the market over the last few years, well here’s a way for you to enjoy the benefits of caffeine in your hair without having to buy a new hair care product.

According to various haircare professionals, you should simply apply an extra-strong coffee to your hair. Leave it in for 20 minutes and then rinse. Repeat this for seven days for glossier hair.
